William Niu, a recent graduate of the Vagelos Molecular Life Sciences (MLS) program, has been awarded several highly prestigious fellowships:
- 2024 Hertz Fellowship in applied science, engineering, and mathematics by the Fannie and John Hertz Foundation
- Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans, a merit-based program that provides graduate school funding for immigrants and children of immigrants to the U.S
- Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship
- National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship
At Penn, William majored in Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Physics. He was recognized as a Dean’s Scholar and received several honors, including the Roy and Diana Vagelos Science Challenge Award, the William E. Stephens Prize, and the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. He was also elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
This fall, William will continue his academic journey, pursuing a Ph.D. in Computational and Systems Biology at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
