MLS Students Showcase their Research at Conferences, Summer 2024

During Summer 2024, second- and third-year MLS students dedicated much of their time to conducting research in their host labs across the Penn campus. In addition to their lab work, many students had the opportunity to attend conferences to present their findings and learn from experts in their fields.

  • Ziqi (Nancy) An, MLS ’25, attended the American Crystallographic Association’s 74th Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado, from July 7 to 12, 2024. At the conference, Nancy presented her poster, “Expression, Purification, and Biophysical Characterization of Monkeypox Virus Protein I1,” highlighting her research in Professor Kushol Gupta’s lab. Nancy was honored with the Linus Pauling Poster Prize, an award given to no more than seven of the best graduate or undergraduate poster presentations.

  • Richard Chen, MLS ’25, participated in the 38th Annual Symposium of the Protein Society (PS38), held in Vancouver, British Columbia, from July 23 to 26, 2024. At the conference, Richard presented a poster titled “Optimizing Ultrasensitive RT-QuiC Assay on AD tau Seed-Monomer Reactions,” which showcased his research in Professor Virginia Lee’s lab.
